Cypress
Three timber volumes under opposing shed roofs, wrapped around a sheltered garden deck.
The house
Cypress takes the language of the Northern California coast — weathered vertical boards, single-slope roofs, windows grouped as calm horizontal bands — and turns it into a 2,400 sq ft family plan for an ordinary suburban lot. From the street two tall timber volumes hold a low, sheltered entry under a blackened-steel canopy. Inside, the living volume rises the other way — toward a north clerestory and a 16-foot wall of glass to the garden.
- Zig-zag shed roofline
- 34-foot great room
- Primary suite at the quiet corner
- Working entry
- Built for California

Code basis · California
This plan was drawn to:
- 2025 California Residential Code (Title 24 Part 2.5)
- 2025 California Energy Code (Title 24 Part 6)
- 2025 CALGreen (Part 11)
- 2025 California Wildland-Urban Interface Code (Part 7) — WUI variant
California enforces the California Residential Code statewide, together with Title 24 Part 6 energy standards. Seismic design category and Wildland-Urban Interface rules depend on the site. Energy compliance and structural calculations are prepared for your lot.
Before you build. Halden plans are design documents. Depending on where you build, your jurisdiction may require structural design, energy compliance, a site plan, or a seal from a design professional or engineer licensed in your state. A local professional should review and adapt the set to your lot, soils and adopted code. We don't guarantee compliance with local zoning, covenants or setbacks.
